The Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4 Drive, catalog number 22A-B4P5N104, is a 3-phase, 240VAC adjustable frequency AC drive, often called a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) or Variable Speed Drive (VSD). This type of electronic device is used to operate an AC motor and control its speed by varying the input frequency.

The 22A-B4P5N104 drive utilizes Sensorless Vector Control for both speed and torque modulation. It operates with an input voltage of 200-240VAC, 3-phase, and provides an output voltage range of 0-230VAC, 3-phase, with a continuous output current of 4.5 Amperes. This drive supports motors rated up to 0.75 kW or 1.0 HP.

Common applications for this drive include small motors in industrial fan systems, pump systems, material handling, and conveying systems. It comes with a fixed keypad, but other versions of a Human Interface Module (HIM) can be added. The drive incorporates an internal IGBT brake but lacks an internal filter. Additionally, it features an RS485 communication port supporting daisy-chain topology for network configuration, and it can fully integrate with Logix controller platforms via the Studio 5000 Design environment.

This electronic drive allows users to control motor speed locally through the fixed keypad. It has an IP20 rating and comes with a NEMA/UL open-type enclosure, capable of functioning in ambient temperatures from -10 to 50 degrees Celsius and humidity levels of 0 to 95% non-condensing. The drive has an input voltage range of 200-240 Volts AC, an input current of 5.2 Amperes, and an apparent power rating of 2.2 KVA, with a motor rating of 0.75 kW (1 HP) and power dissipation of 60 Watts along its circuit wires.

For branch circuit protection, an Allen-Bradley 140M-C2E-C10 motor protector, a 100-C09 contactor, and a 10 UL Class J fuse are recommended. The drive includes overcurrent, motor overload, over and under voltage protections, with specific protections such as a 200% hardware limit for up to 60 seconds, a 300% instantaneous fault for 3 seconds, and a 150% motor overload for 60 seconds. It features a digital control input that can be set to sink or source mode via a DIP switch, an analog control input, and a programmable control output. The carrier frequency ranges from 2 to 16 kHz, with a 2% regulation speed based on a 40 to 1-speed range. The device weighs 3.1 pounds and measures 5.98 x 3.15 x 5.35 inches.
