The Rockwell Automation Bulletin 2097 Shunt Resistor is a component designed for use in industrial control systems, particularly with the Kinetix 3 drive. It is used to measure the current flowing through a motor and provides a signal to the drive for control and monitoring purposes.

Technical Specifications

The Bulletin 2097 Shunt Resistor comes in various sizes, including the 2097-R7, which has the following dimensions:

  • Length (L1): 150 mm (5.9 in.)
  • Width (L2): 137 mm (5.4 in.)
  • Height (L3): 110 mm (4.3 in.)
  • Depth (D1): 41 mm (1.6 in.)
  • Thickness (H): 4.3 mm (0.17 in.)
  • Wire size: 2.5 mm* (14 AWG)

Installation and Mounting

The shunt resistor is installed by connecting it to the Shunt/DC Bus terminal on the front of the drive using a 7-pin quick-connect terminal block. It is wired between the Positive DC Bus (either BC-1 or 2) and BC-4. The shunt resistor can operate at its full power rating if it is mounted vertically on a 200 x 200 x 3 mm (7.9 x 7.9 x 0.12 in.) heat sink at 25°C (77°F) with a clearance of 12 mm (0.5 in.) on the sides and 50 mm (2.0 in.) above and below. If a heat sink is not used, refer to the derating information in the user manual for proper installation and operation.

Safety Precautions

The shunt resistor surface temperature can reach up to 200°C (392°F). It is recommended to install the shunt resistor in a manner that prevents user contact and to avoid installing it near flammable material.

Documentation and Support

For full product specifications and documentation, please refer to the product literature or contact Rockwell Automation support. The user manual provides detailed instructions for installation, wiring, and operation of the shunt resistor. Troubleshooting and error code information are also available in the documentation.

Programming and Integration

The shunt resistor is designed to work with the Kinetix 3 drive and is integrated into the drive's control system. Programming and integration are typically handled through the drive's control software and configuration tools.

Troubleshooting and Error Codes

Troubleshooting and error code information are available in the user manual and product documentation. These resources provide guidance on how to diagnose and resolve common issues with the shunt resistor and its integration with the Kinetix 3 drive.

User Manual and Technical Support

The user manual provides detailed instructions for installation, wiring, and operation of the shunt resistor. Technical support is available from Rockwell Automation, and the company's website offers resources and documentation for troubleshooting and error code resolution.
